In 2023 the RCPSG is launching its new ‘the prescription’ competition for creative writing around its historic collection of medical items representing Glasgow’s health care history.
There are three categories – prose (including script), poetry and hybrid writing, with one prize of £100 in each which will be presented at an event at the College in October 2023.
You can access our online collections here and you should include the name of the item that inspired you and its catalogue number in your competition entry.
The closing date for the competition is 31 July 2023, and you can find full details of how to enter and rules/eligibility here. If you would like to come into the College to view any of our collections please email us library@rcpsg.ac.uk to make an appointment.

I have emailed an entry in but have not received an acknowledgement. This is making me concerned that my entry has not been received. I haven’t had any notification that the email was not delivered. Perhaps acknowledgement of receipt is still coming? I didn’t want to email again for fear of invalidating my entry and it’s now past the deadline for entry at any rate. This is the first ever writing competition I have ever entered so I am very apprehensive but also excited. I do really hope that my entry was received.
