Working within the College’s medical heritage collections, ‘the prescription’ will bring together a dedicated creative writing group to reflect on growing interest in writing on medical humanities and health care. Applications are invited from writers working in poetry, prose and hybrid forms.

Four themed, in-person workshops at the College (March to June 2023) will explore the collections in sessions led by writer and editor Dr Gillean McDougall and the Heritage team. There will be time for discussion, writing, and exploration of current books on medical humanities, and a pamphlet of work produced by ‘the prescription’ will be launched at a public event at the College in October 2023.

You may be an experienced writer, working in health care and keen to explore archives creatively or simply interested in our collections. Places are limited and will be awarded on the basis of your application. We’re asking for a writing CV (publication/courses taken/prizes or awards) as well as a short statement telling us why you’re interested in ‘the prescription.’ You should include an example of your writing (max 40 lines of poetry/2000 words of prose/images may be included).

Please submit your application here by 15 January 2023 and thanks for your interest in ‘the prescription’!
